Lower Solukhumbu

The Dudh Kunda Trek is one of Nepal's most beautiful - and you'll usually find it less crowded - than some of the other trekking adventures on offer. This one leads to the sacred alpine lake of Dudh Kunda, a seriously pretty spot that's perched at an altitude of 4,560 metres in the lower reaches of the Everest region. Whatever your faith, both Hindus and Buddhists hold the lake in pretty high regard, and it's a stunning sight to behold, resting as it does beneath the towering bulk of Numbur Himal - that's often referred to as the "Matterhorn of Nepal" by locals.

The journey starts off in the culturally rich villages of the Solu region, and from there you'll make your way through traditional Sherpa settlements, dense forests of rhododendron, all the way to high up terraced farmlands and alpine meadows. As you make your way along the trail, you'll get to experience genuine local culture in all it's forms, some truly stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and the kind of peaceful Himalayan landscapes that'll make you feel a million miles from the crowds that throng the Everest Base Camp route.

As you climb up towards Dudh Kunda, you'll find yourself looking out on to some of the most breathtaking views of Numbur Himal, Everest, Karyolung and other snow-capped peaks you'll ever see. The lake itself is beautiful, but it's the scenery and the spiritual significance of the whole place that make it a truly unforgettable experience for nature lovers, photographers and adventure seekers of all kinds.
